Are you excited or nervous about your child's first day of school? All of us have concerns and fears in new situations and your child is no different.

Here are 4 tips to help your child adjust to school and reduce any anxieties you or your child may have:

  1. Role play. Before your child starts school pretend you are their teacher or another student and act out part of the day. Remember to make it fun.
  2. Prepare a routine before school begins, such as making a set bedtime and time for waking up.
  3. Build your child's confidence at school by giving lots of praise. Start with small things such as getting dressed, carrying their own bag, and using their manners with the teacher.
  4. Reassure your child that it's okay to be nervous and point out the other kids in the class are feeling the same way also. Let your child know how you felt when you started school and all the fun things you did.
