Sports Day 2026: The Race Wasn’t Over Yet
Rain may have brought our day at Bambous Stadium to an early end, but Hampton Sports Day 2026 still had a champion to crown.
There are few days in the Hampton calendar quite like Sports Day.
On 17th July, Bambous Stadium was alive with House colours, cheering and plenty of friendly rivalry as our pupils took to the track and gave it everything they had.
The occasion became even more memorable when we were honoured by a visit from His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, President of the Republic of Mauritius. His presence, encouragement and words of support meant a great deal to our pupils, staff and the many Hampton families sharing the day with us.
And then the weather changed the script.
The rain arrived, the programme was cut short and eventually there was no choice but to call an early end to proceedings.
Sports Day was over.
Except it wasn’t.
There was still a 2026 House champion to crown.
So, on the final day of term, the competition resumed — this time back at Hampton. Pupils at our Quatre Bornes and Curepipe campuses had their chance to race for their Houses, with those results then added to everything already earned at Bambous Stadium.
And suddenly, Sports Day was wide open again.
When every race had finally been run and every result combined, 🔵 Bentham finished fourth. 🟡 Lupton and 🔴 Ruskin shared second place.
Which left one House at the top.
🟢 Oakley. 🏆
Our defending champions had done it again, retaining their crown and becoming Hampton School Sports Day champions for 2026.
Of course, Sports Day is never only about who lifts the trophy. Across both parts of this year’s competition, our pupils showed determination, teamwork, courage and tremendous sportsmanship — whether they were racing for first place or cheering a friend home.
The weather may have interrupted Sports Day 2026.
It didn’t get the final word.
